  5. billion family fortune is one of the largest in the U.S.; in
  6. Chicago. Born to Lithuanian immigrant parents, Crown quit
  7. school after the eighth grade for financial reasons. His
  8. diverse holdings eventually included railroads, construction,
  9. hotels, the aerospace industry, meat packing and a share in the
  10. Chicago Bulls. He could dish it out as well as make it. During
  11. his lifetime, Crown gave $100 million to the arts, medicine and
  12. education.
